Arulmigu Kasi Viswanathar Temple

Arulmigu Kasi Viswanathar Temple (Tenkasi) Built by King Parakrama Pandyan in the 15th century, this temple serves as the spiritual centerpiece of the district and gives the town its name, meaning “Southern Kashi”. It features an imposing 180-foot Rajagopuram, making it one of the tallest temple towers in South India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as Kasi Viswanathar alongside Goddess Ulagamman, it is believed to grant the same spiritual merits as visiting Varanasi. The temple is renowned for its intricate musical stone pillars and stunning Dravidian architectural brilliance. Pilgrims flock here during major festivals such as Maha Shivaratri and Thiruvathirai to seek divine blessings.
