Arulmigu Sankara Narayanasamy Temple

Constructed in the 11th century by King Ukkira Pandyan, this temple uniquely symbolizes the unity of Shaivism and Vaishnavism. The presiding deity, Sri Sankaranarayana, manifests half as Lord Shiva and half as Lord Vishnu. Goddess Gomathi Amman is worshipped here as a powerful Shakti deity, revered for curing ailments and fulfilling vows. The massive temple complex features a majestic nine-tiered gopuram and the sacred serpent pit (Puttru) with medicinal soil. The annual Aadi Thapasu festival draws hundreds of thousands of devotees from across Tamil Nadu.
